Description Albert Zeyer 2008-10-23 19:40:48 UTC
When I load the page
http://www.matha.rwth-aachen.de/~zeyer/ilias/jars/Mengen/Mengen.html
and when I click a few times on the reload-button, FF just crashs.

Comment 2 Albert Zeyer 2008-10-23 19:43:02 UTC
On the console, I am getting this:

az@acompneu ~ $ firefox
[ConvConfHandler] isPreferred contentType: multipart/x-mixed-replace
INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Could not register plugininstance

System error?:: Success

(I am not sure which of these messages are related to the problem.)
Comment 3 Albert Zeyer 2008-10-23 19:51:50 UTC
This bug seems gone in sun-jdk-1.6.0.10. (At least I was not able anymore to let FF crash.)
Comment 4 Albert Zeyer 2008-10-23 19:53:03 UTC
Btw., I think that are actually two bugs, one in sun-jdk and one general bug in FF (FF should not crash if some of the plugins is behaving bad).
Comment 5 Wormo (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-10-24 18:45:46 UTC
The first part, the java bug, will be solved when 1.6.0.10 gets stabilized.

The second part is more of a firefox architecture decision than a bug -- they use a single process which allows buggy plugins to crash the browser. You might want to try nspluginwrapper which tries to prevent plugins from crashing firefox (bugs in nsplugginwrapper itself can still crash firefox, and you need a recent version to work with ff3...). Gentoo uses nspluginwrapper for its other main purpose, which is to run 32-bit plugins with a 64-bit browser. This means that nspluginwrapper is not currently keyworded for x86, only amd64 -- and I notice you are currently running an x86 system. Let us know if you want help trying out nspluginwrapper for x86 in a local overlay :)
Comment 6 Raúl Porcel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-11-25 12:02:29 UTC
1.6.0.10 is stable, so this bug isn't valid anymore.
