xosview hangs on recent 2.5 kernels. There is a patch
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=694210&group_id=33399&atid=408349
that fixes the problem for me (using vanilla 2.5.73)

I had the same problem using kernel 2.6.0_test3 and found a patch at: 
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=2527527&forum_id=9910 
 
It seems like xosview is lacking active maintenance judging by the emails on the 
developers list, so my suggestion would be a new build revision with a patch.

Resolving: Kernel 2.5/2.6 friendly version in CVS, coming to a portage near you.

Note that you must re-emerge xosview under the 2.5/2.6 kernel, as the patch is applied or not depending on the output of uname -r.  So when you upgrade to 2.6, the existing xosview will break.  It would be nice if there was some scheme for letting users know about things like this.
