Description Stuart W. Finlayson 2008-10-20 04:14:23 UTC
After updating to app-office/openoffice-bin-3.0.0, it gripes about not finding a jre everytime I open something (it gripes to the terminal and via pop-ups). It seems to work (although the fonts seem to be bigger--a 12pt renders as a 14pt), but I have to dismiss pop-ups constantly--very annoying...

I have temporarily gone back to app-office/openoffice-bin-2.4.1.

Here's my emerge --info:

Hiya Stuart, could you please copy us some of the errors from the terminal, and also please mention which (if any) java runtimes (or SDKs) you may have installed?
Comment 2 Stuart W. Finlayson 2008-10-20 22:27:34 UTC
The terminal error is:

javaldx: Could not find a Java Runtime Environment!

The pop-ups (that must be dismissed before you can proceed) say:

OpenOffice.org requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this task. Please install a JRE and restart OpenOffice.org.

Most of the time, I have no idea what "task" it's referring to--it just appears.

I do not have a JDK or JRE installed--I set USE="-java" so I wouldn't need one. I was under the impression that java was only used for the help system and the database thing--neither of which I use. However, if it is a requirement now, there really shouldn't be a java USE flag for it.
Comment 3 Mike Auty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-10-20 22:35:46 UTC
Hmmm, it appears the fix they put in for bug 99832 isn't working. On my copy of openoffice-bin-3.0.0, it appears the javaldx file is now in /usr/lib/openoffice/ure/bin/javaldx, rather than /usr/lib/openoffice/program/javaldx.

As an immediate workaround, I'd suggest moving this file away (to a back somewhere maybe) and try running openoffice again...

I guess this will be a quick fix in the ebuild, if that solves the problem.
Comment 4 Stuart W. Finlayson 2008-10-21 01:09:02 UTC
That seems to take care of it.

Yeah that was a stupid oversight on my part, thanks for pointing it out. I've fixed this in the ebuild now.

Where should the javaldx file be placed I had to move it to /openoffice/program for it to work.
