I think you have a package.unmask file for kde 4.0.5 because it is hard-masked in the tree and thus would not be merged. I suggest you remove the unmask file and then try again. Also it would be nice to know, what you are trying to achieve. Installing 3.5.10 and 4.1.2 in parallel or just one of them?
Right I got unmasked kde-4.0 obviously I got too frustrated from incomplete kde 4.1 and stoped thinking. Thanks for your hint!
