Sorry for the late response. Looking at the CVS history, there have been quite a few changes in the "avision" backend between releases and since the last release - are you able to try the cvs HEAD version of the driver or do you need me to prepare a patch to test this?
Comment 4 Markus Goppelt 2008-11-20 22:17:51 UTC
I downloaded the latest CVS snapshot:
https://alioth.debian.org/snapshots.php?group_id=30186
I did configure and make.
These are the avision files from media-gfx/sane-backends-1.0.19-r2:
/etc/sane.d/avision.conf
/usr/lib64/sane/libsane-avision.la
/usr/lib64/sane/libsane-avision.so
/usr/lib64/sane/libsane-avision.so.1
/usr/lib64/sane/libsane-avision.so.1.0.19
/usr/share/man/man5/sane-avision.5.bz2
Do I have to replace them with the appropriate CVS files?

Replacing this file should do the job.

Good luck!

Any progress?
Comment 7 Markus Goppelt 2009-01-30 21:17:28 UTC
Unfortunately I don't have the scanner any more. If I remember correctly, I tried it and it segfaulted. Some sort of debug output was given.
