Sorry for the late response. Looking at the CVS history, there have been quite a few changes in the "avision" backend between releases and since the last release - are you able to try the cvs HEAD version of the driver or do you need me to prepare a patch to test this?
I downloaded the latest CVS snapshot: https://alioth.debian.org/snapshots.php?group_id=30186 I did configure and make. Unfortunately I don't have the scanner any more. If I remember correctly, I tried it and it segfaulted. Some sort of debug output was given.
