Description Genorax 2008-10-15 20:53:07 UTC
While using KDE 4.1.2, I noticed that my monitor would never power off despite having set that option in the system settings menu. The screen saver would be on all of the time when the machine was idle. If, however, I set the power saving items to activate first, then they behave as expected. i am unsure if the screen saver starts or not after them, because the monitor is then powered down.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set suspend, standby, or power off to 3 minutes
2. Set screen saver to come on after two
3. Notice that even after an hour you have only screen saver and power savnig features never trigger.

Actual Results:
No power off, no suspend, etc just screen saver.

Expected Results:
Monitor was supposed to turn off after X number of minutes

I see the same problem.

If you set the screen saver to NOT activate automatically, then power saving works. In other words, manually locking the screen (which activates the screen saver) with the "Start automatically" option unchecked in KDE's Screen Saver Settings allows the monitor to go into power save mode.

So, for some reason, allowing the screen saver to start automatically after its prescribed time is disabling the ability to enter power saving mode.

Installing kdeartwork-kscreensaver with USE="-xscreensaver" makes no difference.
