The main problem is indicated in this line ../../src/hoster.c:487: error: storage size of 'rfds' isn't know Now, hoster shouldn't actually be built at all since it is just a piece of sample code for demonstrating how to use pvmd. I am not sure why your setup decides to build it. In any case, could you please try the patch below and see if it is sufficient to disable building of hoster. Thanks, Markus

I also tried to add the line export CFLAGS="${CFLAGS} -D_GNU_SOURCE" instead of append-flags -D_GNU_SOURCE to src_compile but it fails with the same result.
Perhaps this problem is also amd64 related. I just tried to emerge scilab-4.1.2-r1 at a i686 system and it works without problems, but it fails at all amd64 systems.
Either you didn't do it correctly, or a makefile needs to be fixed, cause that command line still lacks '-D_GNU_SOURCE'.
I tried once more. Under /usr/local/portage/sci-mathematics/scilab I have a scilab overlay. In /usr/local/portage/sci-mathematics/scilab/scilab-4.1.2-r1.ebuild in the function src_compile() I have a line append-flags -D_GNU_SOURCE just before the econf line.
