After installing KDE 4.1.2 from Portage, pgAdminIII reports errors on startup OR apparently freezes. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start pgAdminIII Actual Results: If started in KDE 4.1.2 the dialog popup which notifies the errors is behind the splash screen, so the application apparently freezes and has to be killed. If started from KDE 3.5.9, it will show a sequence of popup errors: An error has occurred: Can not enumerate files in directory '/usr/share/applnk/Games' (error 13: Permission denied) (click on OK) An error has occurred: Can not enumerate files in directory '/usr/share/applnk/Settingsmenu' (error 13: Permission denied) (click on OK) and so on, for the following directories: Multimedia, Development/Translation, Development/X-KDE-KDevelopIDE, Development/Web Development, Office, System, Applications, Education, Science, Utilities, Internet, Graphics Then, the application completes the startup correctly, and seems to work flawlessly.
Please post your `emerge --info' too.

I got the same problem. I tried to compile it by hand and I noticed that the configure script tell me that no wxWidget can be found and I needed to run eselect wxwidget to select the right one. I updated to x11-libs/wxGTK-2.8.8.1 and recompiled pgadmin 1.8.4 and now, everything is fine. Hope it will help you.
Forgot to tell that I ran eselect wxwidgets set 3 ( stand for gtk2-unicode-release-2.8) (In reply to comment #3) > I got the same problem. The first issue reported here is a kde/wxgtk/freedesktop interacton issue. 4.1 is long gone. Second issue is no active version after upgrade, which eselect fixes nicely.
