There's a pretty good chance, that you don't know what are you talking about. Poppler is known of breaking API/ABI across releases. 'getFileSpecName' was a member of 'LinkAction' in 0.8, but no longer is in 0.9 (and probably above). So this is in no way gcc related.
You are bloody right. I hate C++, so I presumed quickly without really digging the issue (since it's C++). Then it's upstream...
