kde-base/kpopete-4.1.2 seems to have some problems (I suspect that it may be just one problem, but several symptoms) with webcam handling. kopete-3.5.10 did not show any of these problems. I am using a Creative Optima AF USB camera using the uvcvideo driver supplied with the gentoo-sources-2.6.26-r1 kernel. 1) If kopete is running, other applications are unable to open the webcam. This is without having attempted to use the webcam from within kopete. 2) If another application is using the webcam and kopete is started, the image parameters (brightness, saturation etc) are reset/changed in the other application. 3) If another application is using the webcam, kopete crashes (traceback below) when selecting the 'Settings'->Configure menu option. This looks to me as upstream bug. Would you please open bug in kde.org bugzilla and atatch link to that bug here. When they solve this issue please reopen this bug so we can apply theirs patch. If you disagree reopen and so on... :]
