When I start Kaffeine I immediately get the message that it was unable to load "xine_part". Under details it explains that xine_part.desktop was not found in the search path. I think this may be related to some the KDEDIR changes lately. (I remember reading about KDEDIR in the changelogs of the updates I pulled in, shortly before kaffeine stoped working.) Please restart your X-server and try again. This might be a duplicate of bug #147449
I restarted it a lot of times since the update. It never worked afterwards. (Though I can tell you tomorrow whether it again did not work.)
Reverting to kde-libs-3.5.10 (and restarting) makes this bug go away for me.
A pure reboot does not make it magically work.
I'm not sure if you're responding to me or not. Emerge kdelibs-3.5.10 (not -r1), reboot, and Kaffeine should work. It does for me.
I can confirm this bug with kdelibs-3.5.10-r1 and kaffeine-0.8.7 Reverting to kdelibs-3.5.10 fixed the problem. I noticed that since kdelibs-3.5.10-r1 KDEDIRS is no longer set in /etc/env.d/45kdepaths-3.5, so this might be the culprit here.
Appears to be fixed in kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.10-r2.
Thanks for reporting back, please reopen if it still happens with kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.10-r2.
Getting this with kdelibs-3.5.10-r4. Changing /usr/kde/3.5/share/config/kdeglobals to contain dir_services=/usr/share/services instead of dir_services=/usr/kde/3.5/share/services:/usr/share/services makes kaffeine find xine_part.desktop and work. Does this issue have to be reopened? Also see #269695
Confirmed. Thought the nightly update would fix it already, but it does not. Thus: Reopening.
Works again.
No, it doesn't :(. Please reopen. [I--] [ ] media-video/kaffeine-0.8.6 (3.5) [I--] [ ] kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.10-r6 (3.5)
Please try 0.8.8
/usr/kde/3.5/share/services/xine_part.desktop Yup, this one works. Thanks. But the problem remains in last stable version which is not good. However, it is not my problem anymore.
i have already opened a stabilization bug for kaffeine 0.8.8 but it requires stabilization of linux-headers as well, so i guess it will take a while
