Description Dennis Schridde 2008-10-11 14:00:30 UTC
When I start Kaffeine I immediately get the message that it was unable to load "xine_part". Under details it explains that xine_part.desktop was not found in the search path.

I think this may be related to some the KDEDIR changes lately.
(I remember reading about KDEDIR in the changelogs of the updates I pulled in, shortly before kaffeine stoped working.)

[I] kde-base/kdebase-startkde (4.1.2-r1(4.1)@05/10/08)
[I] kde-base/kdelibs (3.5.10-r1(3.5)@07/10/08 4.1.2-r1(4.1)@07/10/08)
[I] media-video/kaffeine (0.8.7@11/10/08)

Reproducible: Always

Please restart your X-server and try again. This might be a duplicate of bug #147449
Comment 2 Dennis Schridde 2008-10-11 16:07:34 UTC
I restarted it a lot of times since the update. It never worked afterwards.
(Though I can tell you tomorrow whether it again did not work.)

Reverting to kde-libs-3.5.10 (and restarting) makes this bug go away for me.
Comment 4 Dennis Schridde 2008-10-12 00:16:21 UTC
A pure reboot does not make it magically work.
Comment 5 trefoil 2008-10-12 02:16:17 UTC
I'm not sure if you're responding to me or not. Emerge kdelibs-3.5.10 (not -r1), reboot, and Kaffeine should work. It does for me.
Comment 6 Tobias Senner 2008-10-12 10:23:44 UTC
I can confirm this bug with

kdelibs-3.5.10-r1 and kaffeine-0.8.7

Reverting to kdelibs-3.5.10 fixed the problem.

I noticed that since kdelibs-3.5.10-r1 KDEDIRS is no longer set in /etc/env.d/45kdepaths-3.5, so this might be the culprit here.

Comment 7 Dennis Schridde 2008-10-12 11:00:16 UTC
Appears to be fixed in kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.10-r2.
Comment 8 Timo Gurr (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-10-12 15:23:59 UTC
Thanks for reporting back, please reopen if it still happens with kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.10-r2.
Comment 9 Albert Holm 2009-05-14 20:59:09 UTC
Getting this with kdelibs-3.5.10-r4.

Changing /usr/kde/3.5/share/config/kdeglobals to contain

dir_services=/usr/share/services

instead of

dir_services=/usr/kde/3.5/share/services:/usr/share/services

makes kaffeine find xine_part.desktop and work.

Does this issue have to be reopened? Also see #269695
Comment 10 Dennis Schridde 2009-05-15 06:44:33 UTC
Confirmed. Thought the nightly update would fix it already, but it does not. Thus: Reopening.
Comment 11 Dennis Schridde 2009-05-25 15:40:33 UTC
Works again.
Comment 12 DICR_GENTOO 2009-06-25 14:00:57 UTC
No, it doesn't :(. Please reopen.

Please try 0.8.8
Comment 14 DICR_GENTOO 2009-06-26 07:11:16 UTC
/usr/kde/3.5/share/services/xine_part.desktop

Yup, this one works. Thanks.

But the problem remains in last stable version which is not good. However, it is not my problem anymore.

i have already opened a stabilization bug for kaffeine 0.8.8 but it requires stabilization of linux-headers as well, so i guess it will take a while
