qemulator-0.5 RDEPENDs on app-emulation/qemu which is not correct. One might decide to use it with app-emulation/kvm or qemu-softmmu.

I would suggest an ewarn or einfo message that recommends qemu.

Thanks for pointing out the available choices. Rather than change a legitimate runtime dependency to an einfo, the qemu dependency could be extended to allow alternatives. Let's see what the maintainer thinks about allowing alternatives for the emulator backend...
