Yesterday I closed pidgin, because one programm caused 100% load on X (it was skype), but after restarting pidgin, I got varios error messages from my accounts, that the servers counlnd be resolved. With kopete and pidgin@windows everything works fine. I tried to delete the .purple folder, reinstalled pidgin atfirst with 2.4.3 then 2.5.1. nothing changed. I tried diffrent use flags like bonjour and debug. At last I located every file related to pidgin and deleted it (locate -i pidgin purple | xargs rm -r) and reinstalled pidgin. I also reinstalled dependencies cike glib, dbus, python, gtk+,... Nothing changed. Perhaps it has something to do with the new gcc 4.3.2 I installed 3 dayes ago. I made an emerge -e world to compile everything with it, but after it, pidgin still worked. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. dunno 2. 3. Actual Results: Installed gcc-4.3.2 emerge -e world Expected Results: Should connect flawless
I forgot, I downgraded gtk+ to 2.12.12, because mplayerplugin didnt compiles with 2.12.14. but after it pidgin still worked emerge --info Portage 2.2_rc11 (default/linux/amd64/2008.0/desktop, gcc-4.3.2, glibc-2.8_p20080602-r0, 2.6.26-gentoo-r1 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: Linux-2.6.26-gentoo-r1-x86_64-Intel-R-_Core-TM-2_Quad_CPU_Q6600_@_2.40GHz-with-glibc2.2.5 Timestamp of tree: Wed, 08 Oct 2008 10:07:05 +0000 ccache version 2.4 [enabled] app-shells/bash: 3.2_p39 dev-java/java-config: 1.3.7, 2.1.6-r1 dev-lang/python: 2.5.2-r8 dev-util/ccache: 2.4-r8 sys-apps/baselayout: 2.0.0 sys-apps/openrc: 9999 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.18.1-r3 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.63 sys-devel/automake: 1.5, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10.1-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.18-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.0-r4 sys-devel/libtool: 2.2.6a virtual/os-headers: 2.6.26 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64 ~amd64" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=core2 -O2 -pipe -fno-ident" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/config /var/lib/hsqldb" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/gentoo-release /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/splash /etc/terminfo /etc/texmf/web2c /etc/udev/rules.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=core2 -O2 -pipe -fno-ident" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="candy ccache distlocks parallel-fetch preserve-libs protect-owned sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-orphans userfetch" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp.wh2.tu-dresden.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo ftp://ftp.join.uni-muenster.de/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo http://mirrors.sec.informatik.tu-darmstadt.de/gentoo/" LANG="en_US.UTF-8" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1" LINGUAS="en" MAKEOPTS="-j8" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage/layman/java-overlay /usr/local/portage/layman/sunrise /usr/local/portage/layman/openrc /usr/local/portage/layman/science /usr/local/portage/layman/desktop-effects /usr/local/portage/overlay" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X aac acl acpi alsa amd64 apm arts avahi berkdb bluetooth branding bzip2 cairo cdr cli cracklib crypt css cups dbus dri dvd dvdr dvdread emboss encode evo fam fbcon ffmpeg fortran fuse gdbm gif glitz gpm gstreamer gtk hal iconv isdnlog java javascript jpeg jpeg2k kde kerberos kpathsea latex ldap libnotify lisp mad midi mikmod mmx mmxext mono mp3 mpeg mudflap multilib ncurses nls nptl nptlonly nsplugin nvidia ogg openal opengl openmp oss pam pch pcre pdf perl png ppds pppd pulseaudio python qt3 qt3support qt4 quicktime readline reflection samba sdl session spl sse sse2 ssl ssse3 startup-notification svg sysfs tcpd tiff truetype unicode usb v4l v4l2 vorbis xcb xcomposite xinerama xml xorg xulrunner xv zlib" ALSA_CARDS="emu10k1" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mmap_emul mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic authn_alias authn_anon authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation rewrite setenvif speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" CAMERAS="canon" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="evdev" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="en" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="nvidia" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, FFLAGS, INSTALL_MASK, LC_ALL, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS
Some output from pidgin itself would be helpful (whatever it prints when started from a command line, logs and so on).
Created attachment 167614 [details] pidgin messages with debug
if i compile without debug flag pidgin sais nothing, but with it see attachment perhaps this is important too. git has the sameproblem. Amadeus: make a compleet update of your system, with EXACTLY those commands: emerge --sync && emerge -DaNuv world && revdep-rebuild && revdep-rebuild && etc-update and eventually: fix_libtool_files.sh -h python-updater perl-cleaner java-config Then fix your machine by reading ewarns (using elogv or elogviewer). If *any* of the above command fail, then the bug has nothing to do with Pidgin => go to forums or IRC.
Since git fails too this problem has nothing to do with pidgin. To debug check that resolving for normal users works (e.g. with ping www.gentoo.org)? Also may be this is permissions problem on /etc/resolv.conf? Anyway closing as invalid: try to localize this problem more and if you sure that only pidgin fails, then reopen.
