Description Alexandre Rostovtsev (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-09-29 16:07:40 UTC
xorg-server-1.5.0, xf86-input-synaptics-0.15.2-r2, udev-128

With gnome-2.22.*, the synaptics touchpad worked perfectly

After updating to gnome-2.24 from gnome overlay, the mouse continues to work fine in the gdm login screen. However, a couple of seconds after I enter my password and start to load the Gnome desktop, the mouse stops moving. Only the cursor movement stops - button clicks continue to work fine.

This bug only seems to affect the synaptics touchpad. Both a random USB mouse and a Wacom tablet seem to work OK in gnome-2.24 (however, carrying a tablet just to move the cursor is obviously extremely inconvenient).

I have a touchpad myself and it works real fine (on a macbook). Are you using gsynaptics by any chance ?
Comment 4 Alexandre Rostovtsev (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-09-29 16:47:56 UTC
Thanks for the advice! Unmerging gsynaptics made the mouse work again. I guess gsynaptics-0.9.14 is not compatible with gnome-2.24? In that case, it should be marked in the dependencies, so people don't end up without a working mouse.
Comment 5 Gilles Dartiguelongue (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-09-29 17:15:54 UTC
nah, gsynaptics itself doesn't work that good, someone (me if I get enough time) needs to backport more patches from debian to make it work properly.
Comment 6 Rémi Cardona (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-09-30 09:05:26 UTC
And once Input Device Properties land in xorg-server 1.6, gsynaptics will have to be rewritten to support them, as SHMConfig will be completely dropped. Be prepared! :)

Maybe patch in bug 248939 could fix this... Good luck! :-)
Comment 8 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2009-01-23 08:12:30 UTC
Have you tried with gnome-extra/gsynaptics-0.9.14-r1?
