After compiling netbeans, the installer fails with the message "Error: Linux File Service Initialization Failed..." (more below), and emerge does not exit. Ran java-check-environment, no change. This occurred with sun-jdk-1.6; changing the system vm did not seem to affect what netbeans was built with (always sun-jdk-1.6?). Please upgrade to netbeans 6.5, it is not marked stable yet but it is stable according to netbeans so you can only face some gentoo related issues, if ever. I will not work in this issue as netbeans 5.5 is pretty old and I will remove it once netbeans 6.5 is marked stable.
