lug.mtu.edu is a new Gentoo rsync and sources mirror, operated by the Michigan Tech Linux Users Group. (Houghton MI, USA)
Sorry for the delay. Can you confirm the CPU, RAM & bandwidth available to the server? Will the minimum user connection limit be at least 15? Thanks.
The minimum user connection of 15 is for rsync only. The source mirror can be less.
CPU is P2 400Mhz, 384mb RAM. Bandwidth limit is ~5Mbit/sec. Max connections is 16.
I've added 141.219.155.230 to the access list for rsync1.us.gentoo.org. Please update your rsync cron jobs to point to rsync1.us.gentoo.org and post back here when you've done so. We'll monitor the server for a couple days to make sure things are working fine. Thanks.
Syncing from rsync1 looks to be good from my end...
Something is definately not happening correctly. There are some very large gaps between syncs. Are you syncing every 30 minutes?
Ooh, hmm. I should really learn to read one of these days. Was trying to sync to rsync2.de.gentoo.org, since that's what the default setting in the script was. Should be corrected now.
So far, everything looks OK. The syncs appear to be happening slightly early (22:59 instead of 23:00). This isn't a problem, but I'd like to confirm that the server is running ntp. Thanks.
Yes, we run NTP. ---snip--- [root@lug root]# ntptrace localhost: stratum 3, offset 0.000022, synch distance 0.01839 time.mtu.edu: stratum 2, offset 0.000417, synch distance 0.00154 gpstime1.mtu.edu: stratum 1, offset 0.000477, synch distance 0.00000, refid 'GPS ' ---snip---
This server is now rsync24.us.gentoo.org. Please update the motd file to include that information. I've subscribed <pwcorbet@mtu.edu> to our gentoo-mirrors mailing list (low volume). This list is used to discuss mirror-related issues. Thanks for supporting Gentoo.
A few questions: 1. is the module name on rsync1.us.gentoo.org also 'gentoo' as it is on ibiblio? 2. Are we still on the permitted ACL for rsync1? 3. I seem to have been subscribed to gentoo-core, not gentoo-mirror; I'm thinking it's not the right list to be on. 'low-traffic', eh?
Sorry for the mailing list mixup. Probably a case of misused 'history' information. You should be off core and on gentoo-mirrors now. >1. is the module name on rsync1.us.gentoo.org also 'gentoo' as it is on ibiblio? I think they may be the same, but rsync1.us isn't the correct location for source mirrors to sync from. I just re-read this bug report and it looks like I overlooked the source mirror. Is that what you want to get working? >2. Are we still on the permitted ACL for rsync1? You should be... are you having connection problems?

Is that what you want to get working? Yes; Which server should we be syncing the source mirror from, then? >>2. Are we still on the permitted ACL for rsync1? >You should be... are you having connection problems? There was an earlier config confusion, where we got pulled from the ACL for sucking too much bandwidth. It's since been corrected; I'm just making sure we're on the list again, so we can sync properly.
You should be fine for the portage mirror. I'll send you some instructions for accessing the private distfiles mirror. Let me know when you get the scripts updated and I'll add the mirror to the web page. Thanks.
OK, scripts are updated and look to be syncing hapily now.
Updated the web page. Thanks.
