Axel 2.0 was released - it seems to resolve the large files problem. I am attaching an ebuild for the new version that compiles on amd64 (I hope it works for everything) changes made in the download link and the ebuild name. Reproducible: Always

I checked this ebuild on ppc and x86 - it appears to work fine. There is a minor upstream glitch - axel --version still shows 1.1 which is a bit confusing. I verified that this is definitely issue with the original source tarball not ebuild

I verified that this is definitely issue with the original > source tarball not ebuild > axel 2.2 works on my box in a couple of weeks well, please add axel-2.2 ebuild into official portage tree.
2.2 works fine for me on x64 after some fiddling with the ebuild file to get the correct tar source file to download... Please add this to portage, there's not a whole lot of multi-task-console downloaders available (pretty much none except for axel), so some people really need this :-)
Created attachment 175329 [details] axel.diff I bumped the ebuild to 2.2 and added the support for a gui included in the kde USE.
Created attachment 178147 [details] axel-2.3.ebuild.diff Version bump to 2.3 "Axel 2.3 has been released and fixes multiple bugs in Large File Support and also adds a new Chinese translation and Chinese manpage."
Done, thanks
