This kind of bug is the most annoying. It breaks the emerge -uD world.
Comment 2 Christophe LEFEBVRE 2008-09-21 19:12:34 UTC
# ls -al /usr/portage/distfiles/vim-7.2.tar.bz2
-rw-rw-r-- 1 portage portage 7203720 sep 21 21:03 /usr/portage/distfiles/vim-7.2.tar.bz2

One of the possibilities, is the vim-7.2.tar.bz2 download have failed just before the end of the download (the file you have download is smaller than the real file). Then, when you have this kind of bug :
* Delete the "bad" file : rm /usr/portage/distfiles/vim-7.2.tar.bz2
* Re-emerge the package

If it fails again, it can be a problem with the manifest file but it is not the case here because the emerge is ok for me.

Delete the "bad" file and re-emerge vim-core resolve your problem ?

No! I tried it several times. Still digest failed :(

File is downloaded from ftp://ftp.vim.org/pub/vim/unix/vim-7.2.tar.bz2
No errors are shown during wget.
Comment 4 Christophe LEFEBVRE 2008-09-21 21:03:41 UTC
Did "wget" use a proxy server to download the file ? I think the "bad" file is maybe on a "cache" server.
Can you try to download vim-7.2.tar.bz2 with the URL you have send and give us the size of the downloaded file ?

I have try to re-emerge vim-7.2.021 and to download the file via FTP (with your URL), and at each time, the size of the file for me is the correct size : 7203720.
Comment 5 Conrad Kostecki gentoo-dev 2008-09-21 21:27:30 UTC
Hi!
Well this is very funny x) No i am not using any proxy for wget.
I tried this command on several machienes:

EVERY PC here give me the same size:

Bl4ckB0x conikost # ls -la vim-7.2.tar.bz2
-rw-r--r-- 1 conikost conikost 7203291 21. Sep 23:19 vim-7.2.tar.bz

After downloading it on my windows pc and transfer it to my linux:

Bl4ckB0x conikost # ls -la vim-7.2.tar.bz2
-rw-r--r-- 1 conikost conikost 7203291 21. Sep 22:21 vim-7.2.tar.bz2

So, i still getting this size. I also can open this achive and it works, so it can't be damaged.

---

BUT! On some Gentoo-Mirrors, THERE IS A DIFFRENT FILE. Like: http://21cma.bao.ac.cn/gentoo/distfiles/vim-7.2.tar.bz2
Here i am getting the size as it should be...

---

So i did MD5:

vim-7.2.tar.bz2 (7203720) 556572edfda7a319541a3bc860c7fd36
vim-7.2.tar.bz2 (7203291) f0901284b338e448bfd79ccca0041254

---

Is there maybe a new vim-file, which is diffrent from these on gentoo-mirrors? Did you tried directly ftp://ftp.vim.org/pub/vim/unix/vim-7.2.tar.bz2?
Comment 6 Christophe LEFEBVRE 2008-09-21 22:04:05 UTC
Ok, I CONFIRM these bug ! The file "vim-7.2.tar.bz2" is not exactly the same file between the official vim site and the gentoo mirrors.

I think, the file has been modified with the same name on the official vim site because on the FTP, the date is 6th of september and this version is released from august (at least).

Then, the vim-7.2.tar.bz2 has to be republished on the gentoo mirrors and the manifest file has to be updated with this version of "vim-7.2.tar.bz2".

I suggest you to put this bug in severity "major".
Comment 7 Conrad Kostecki gentoo-dev 2008-09-21 22:14:52 UTC

Did you download this file from ftp://ftp.vim.org/pub/vim/unix/vim-7.2.tar.bz2 today? Because there seems to be a newer file than on the gentoo-mirrors!

I disagree. I have try directly from the vim offcial site and from another PC and the file is the same as yesterday (7203291 and I don't use a proxy server).

Screenshot of official FTP of vim today.

The date and the size of the file is unchanged since yesterday. Same results with wget under Linux.

So, is this going to be fixed?
Comment 13 Ali Polatel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-09-23 17:04:55 UTC
It should be fixed now, sorry for the mess.
