Description vaane 2008-09-16 20:19:29 UTC
When I booted from the "Gentoo 2008.0 LiveCD" with the default boot options, and tried to install the system I discovered that my ide drive was discovered as a sata drive instead.
Im using a first generation pentium4 and I have two ide drives on it.
harddrive "Maxtor 6y120p0" (~115GB Primary master)
CD drive (Secundary slave)

This constitutes the status quo of a modern Linux kernel. Please state how this revelation is an actual bug.

Well it must be a bug because the installation of a bootloader is fairly difficult, or eaven impossible for a "dumbuser" like me.

This isn't a Gentoo related bug. You should report this to the Linux kernel developers,

I´m not sure about that, Debian did´nt have that problem on the machine. I thought the kernel is basically the same (only minor version differences mabe), and if I this is correct, the problem cannot be in the kernel

"Since kernel 2.6.19 the IDE driver subsystem has been rewritten and now all drivers use the sda/sdb/sdc names instead of hda/hdb/hdc."
