# emerge -pU abiword >>> --upgradeonly implies --update... adding --update to options. These are the packages that I would merge, in order: Calculating dependencies ...done! [ebuild U ] app-office/abiword-1.0.6-r1 [1.99.1] This is even after package.mask has the abiword line commented out. This does not happen if I have ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" set. All other packages seem to resist the impulse downgrade, when I use the --upgradeonly flag.
Don't know what to say except that it doesn't seem to be happening anymore. Don't remember updating portage, so maybe I just messed something up. Thought I had recommented out package.mask after the sync, but perhaps I hadn't. Someone want to close?

Is this perhaps due to any caching that's happening now? Is it not checking package.mask because I had already done an emerge -pU world a few moments ago?
I'd like to note this is still happening. Have verified. I edit package.mask, and it still prompts me to downgrade on an emerge -pU world.
reopened on nemo's request
Updating since I'm noticing this with GIMP as well I have 1.3 mask commented out in package.mask Nonetheless, an emerge -pU world prompts me downgrade to 1.2.5 (both packages exist on the system, but it wouldn't surprise me if it tried to delete the 1.3.x branch). [ebuild U ] media-gfx/gimp-1.2.5 [1.3.19] nautilus root # grep gimp /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask #>=media-gfx/gimp-1.3 -U should never downgrade. Whats up with this behaviour? Is starting to get annoying.
Adjusting bug since this behaviour is really making -U fairly useless. Below is the list, for example, it gave me on my last emerge -pU world arts 1.1.4 isn't even in package.mask! [ebuild UD] kde-base/arts-1.1.2 [1.1.4] [ebuild UD] kde-base/kdelibs-3.1.2-r1 [3.1.4] [ebuild UD] kde-base/kdebase-3.1.2 [3.1.4] [ebuild UD] kde-base/kdenetwork-3.1.2 [3.1.4] [ebuild UD] kde-base/kdebindings-3.1.2 [3.1.3]
SLOT changes, they should show as N with portage -r7. No downgrades -> INVALID
