The above link for openal-0.0.8.tar.gz now redirects to http://connect.creativelabs.com/opensource/Wiki/SoundCard Support.aspx Pastebin of the failure in action. http://pastebin.com/m3812c00c Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. have openal in your USE 2. emerge something that uses it :) like mplayer 3. Actual Results: failure! not epic, but bad enough Expected Results: downloaded a tar.gz file instead of a webpage openal.org seems to have moved to Creative's webiste which does not serve the intended tarball. http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/openal-soft-1.5.304.tar.bz2 is available, but I do not know if it is a suitable replacement. Adding -openal to my USE has fixed this well enough for me.
Please never refer to pastebins and attach them instead.
That said, seems like the SRC_URI needs to be adjusted then. Can't see an emerge --info anywhere, but it smells like you aren't using GENTOO_MIRRORS for downloading tarballs, taxing upstream bandwidth unnecessarily, and hitting broken upstream tarball download due to that instead? (of course the SRC_URI should be adjusted still)
media-libs/openal-1.5.304 is in portage now
and it's stable for x86, plus I fixed the openal-0.0.8 src_uri to point at our mirrors instead just in case
