Description Peter Asplund 2008-09-09 20:15:34 UTC
When I'm trying to emerge fluxbox, it fails when generating the menu. I found an old bug here in bugzilla (#179333) which shows the same symptoms, but their fix (removing /root/.gnome* and updating gnome-vfs) did not help. I still hit the wall at the same place.
I'm wondering if it can depend on the new libpng, and its ability to break png support every know and then. (see the Irrlicht bug here on bugzilla. I also can't open png files in feh since updating to libpng 1.2.31).

This is where the emerge fails:

 * Creating a menu file (may take a while) ...
convert: Memory allocation failed `/usr/share/gnomebaker/gnomebaker-48.png'.
convert: Corrupt image `/usr/share/gnomebaker/gnomebaker-48.png'.
convert: missing an image filename `/var/tmp/portage/x11-wm/fluxbox-1.0.0-r2/temp/home/.fluxbox/icons/gnomebaker-48.xpm'.

It just stops there forever. My emerge --info is:
Portage 2.2_rc8 (default-linux/amd64/2007.0/desktop, gcc-4.3.1, glibc-2.8_p20080602-r0, 2.6.26-gentoo-r1 x86_64)

Another strange thing though: When I tried to run 'fluxbox-generate-menu' by hand, it did work:
# fluxbox-generate_menu
Menu successfully generated: /root/.fluxbox/menu
Use fluxbox-generate_menu -h to read about all the latest features.
Comment 2 Wormo (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-09-10 05:41:01 UTC
By the way, does the emerge always fail at this same point (tried multiple times)?
Comment 3 Peter Asplund 2008-09-10 08:36:45 UTC
Oh yes. Always at the same place, with the same output. I've tried multiple times since a couple of weeks back. I've tried moving the file or replacing it with another file, and it is still the same.

I think I had the same issue with the second newest fluxbox too, but I'm not a 100% sure.

Could you please attach your /usr/share/gnomebaker/gnomebaker-48.png to this message (gzipped) so I can take a look at it?

Comment 6 Peter Asplund 2008-09-18 16:33:20 UTC
I had the same issue with Fluxbox-1.1.0.1:

Does it matter that I have changed the use-flags of Fluxbox, and enabled Imlib?

Comment 7 Peter Asplund 2008-09-18 16:34:42 UTC
I meant to also attach:

root@skare$ emerge -uDat fluxbox

These are the packages that would be merged, in reverse order:

Comment 8 Peter Asplund 2008-09-18 16:37:34 UTC
No the same problem exists even after building without the new use flag:

...
 * Creating a menu file (may take a while) ...
convert: Memory allocation failed `/usr/share/gnomebaker/gnomebaker-48.png'.
convert: Corrupt image `/usr/share/gnomebaker/gnomebaker-48.png'.

Comment 9 Mark Tiefenbruck 2008-09-22 00:24:59 UTC
Have you run revdep-rebuild lately? It sounds like you need to re-merge imagemagick.
Comment 10 Peter Asplund 2008-09-25 20:05:17 UTC
Yes I have re-run revdep-rebuild several times, but the output is always the same:

root@skare$ revdep-rebuild -i
 * Configuring search environment for revdep-rebuild

 * Checking reverse dependencies
 * Packages containing binaries and libraries broken by a package update
 * will be emerged.

 * Collecting system binaries and libraries
 * Generated new 1_files.rr
 * Collecting complete LD_LIBRARY_PATH
 * Generated new 2_ldpath.rr
 * Checking dynamic linking consistency
[ 100% ]

 * Dynamic linking on your system is consistent... All done.

I have also run emerge -avt @preserved-rebuild, which always comes out empty.
Comment 11 Peter Asplund 2008-09-25 20:41:18 UTC
I re-emerged imagemagick, and the emerge DID work! Thank you so much!
I guess there should be some fix with the dependencies between the two in the ebuild or something?
Comment 12 Mark Tiefenbruck 2008-09-26 01:12:39 UTC
That would be a problem between imagemagick and gentoolkit. Fluxbox doesn't actually depend on imagemagick; we just use it if it's there. And in this case, it shouldn't even be used unless you compile without imlib2 support.
