Glibc 2.8 was recently released. However, there is no ebuild for it (the most recent is sys-libs/glibc-2.8_p20080602). Having glibc-2.8 in the Portage tree may help with the regression bugs found when searching "ALL glibc 2.8". Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: N/A Actual Results: N/A Expected Results: N/A
GLibC 2.8 was released on 2008-04-11. GLibC tarballs are no longer created, so Gentoo uses GLibC snapshots. glibc-2.8-20080602.tar.bz2 and glibc-2.8-20080908.tar.bz2 contain identical contents. Also note that sys-libs/glibc-2.8_p20080602 is newer that hypothetical sys-libs/glibc-2.8.
Thanks for the suggestion, but Arfrever is correct about new glibc policy http://sources.redhat.com/ml/libc-alpha/2008-05/msg00074.html So, nothing to be done for this bug... closing.
Ah, so p20080602 is the cvs get of the 2.8 release branch?
