I get this error message when i try to emerge packages. it does not always happen, and it happens on different, seemingly random, packages.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge -u world
2. errors on compiling a package
3.

Actual Results:  
the glibc error comes up

Expected Results:  
the package to be installed successfully

If it happens on different sources, and it is always the same error (see Summary), then it's most likely a hardware problem. It could be overheating, or a power problem (either on the mainboard or in the PSU).

OK, is there any tool in gentoo I can use to check temps?

This is not a support forum... but then checking your hardware is going to be a problem if you need to compile certain software to do that, when compiling software is the problem you want to check the hardware for in the first place. It's probably better to actually look at the hardware through the BIOS interface's "system health status" console if that's present, or to focus on the hardware itself (does the case feel hot? What if you left one of the panels off so it ventilates better? Are the voltage supplies in order?)
