Just decided to install 2008.0 from the minimal cd on my Sun Blade 150. But as soon as I get the bash prompt the following error occurs. ============================================================================= BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 11s! [ip:6446] TSTATE: 0000004480009604 TPC: 0000000000462d88 TNPC:0000000000462d8c Y:00000000 Not tainted TPC <tasklet_action+0x58/0xfc> g0: g1: and so on RPC: <tasklet_action+0x34/0xfc> l0: l1: and so on I7: <__do_softirq+0x54/0xf0> ============================================================================= There is also a lot of HEX (guessing) but not being able to copy paste I'd be really happy not to have to type it all in here. Unless it is really necessary. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.boot cdrom 2.wait 3. The system is as stated a Sun Blade 150 with a ULTRASparc IIe (humminbird) processor. 2Gb RAM. ATI Rage GFX card. ALi Corp Audio. Not really sure what else it contains as it won't boot.
My guess is that something's wrong with your ethernet device (or it's driver). Can you try booting with the nodetect option? You can do that by entering this string at the silo prompt: /boot/gentoo initrd=/boot/gentoo.igz root=/dev/ram0 init=/linuxrc looptype=squashfs loop=/image.squashfs cdroot nodetect If it works, please try to bring your network up manually(without dhcp).
> /boot/gentoo initrd=/boot/gentoo.igz root=/dev/ram0 init=/linuxrc > looptype=squashfs loop=/image.squashfs cdroot nodetect Still hangs at the same place. The only difference is I don't get any error this time.
Tried 2007.0?

(In reply to comment #3) > Tried 2007.0? > Gentoo 2007.0 doesn't have this problem. Booting with 2.6.20 kernel.

Please try with a recent ISO. 2008.0 won't be fixed.
