Description Ambroz Bizjak 2008-09-07 01:07:41 UTC
Trying to configure Wine in a folder with ACL entries present and a mode of 700 causes the kernel to deadlock. Requires no special privileges. Filesystem is ReiserFS, don't know about others.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Download the Wine source code (http://ibiblio.org/pub/linux/system/emulators/wine/wine-1.1.4.tar.bz2)
2. Mount a ReiserFS filesystem with the 'acl' option, install sys-apps/acl if needed.
3. Open a shell and enter a writable folder inside the mounted filesystem.
4. Run the following:
   $ mkdir f1
   $ setfacl -R -m user:`whoami`:rwX f1
   $ setfacl -d -R -m user:`whoami`:rwX f1
   $ cd f1
   $ mkdir -m 700 f2
   $ cd f2
   (extract what you have downloaded):
   $ tar xf ~/wine-1.1.4.tar.bz2
   $ cd wine-1.1.4/
   $ ./configure
5. Hit ctrl+c as soon as it starts configuring
Actual Results:
The kernel deadlocks. Some things still work (network, audio), but the screen quickly freezes, the mouse stops moving, and newly plugged USB devices are not initialized. Alt+SysRq+SUB reboots, but doesn't unmount the disk. It crashed the same way even if the filesystem used is not root.

Expected Results:
The system should continue functioning.

Kernel is configured with genkernel's default config and using the initrd.

Comment 1 Mike Pagano gentoo-dev 2008-10-03 18:56:41 UTC
Does this occur with later kernels?
Comment 2 Ambroz Bizjak 2008-10-03 19:01:21 UTC
no, it doesn't with 2.6.26
Comment 3 Mike Pagano gentoo-dev 2008-10-03 19:36:14 UTC
Would you mind testing vanilla-sources-2.6.25.17?

Comment 4 Ambroz Bizjak 2008-10-05 13:49:58 UTC
vanilla-sources-2.6.25.17 is not affected
Comment 5 Mike Pagano gentoo-dev 2008-10-14 12:57:11 UTC
Since it's reported to work in vanilla-sources-2.6.25.17, which is included in genpatches-2.6.25-11, which is used in gentoo-sources-2.6.25-r9 I am closing this as fixed.

User has also reported this as fixed in 2.6.26.
