Description Laurento Frittella (mrfree) 2008-09-02 11:40:10 UTC
As suggested by Remi I file a new bug because I noticed some flickers almost every time I start "UltraVNC viewer" using wine. Please ask me for more useful info.
Comment 1 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-09-02 17:46:10 UTC
Please post your `emerge --info' too.

I've just committed 2.4.2-r1 with a patch that tries to solve the issue. Please let me know how it works for you.

Thanks
Comment 4 Laurento Frittella (mrfree) 2008-09-03 18:24:00 UTC
I've just tried with 2.4.2-r1 but the flickers are still here
Comment 5 Rémi Cardona (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-09-04 08:45:21 UTC
Ok, that's a bit disappointing but not discouraging! ;)

Could you paste/attach the output of "lspci -vv"?

Thanks

lspci

sure! here you are...
Comment 7 Vasily 2008-09-17 14:52:05 UTC
I can confirm that 2.4.2-r1 does not fix the problem. Flickering is still here (gma950 video)
Comment 8 Tobias Jakobi 2008-09-24 03:05:07 UTC
Just update to xf86-video-intel git, the 2.5 branch.

Flickering is gone, so this should be fixed with the next driver version.
Comment 9 Tobias Jakobi 2008-09-24 03:38:22 UTC
This should read "Just updated...". I don't want to encourage people switching to a bleeding edge git release.

I also only did this because I wanted to try out DRM-GEM, which the 2.5 branch should have support for. Quite impressive work if you ask me :)

I just upgraded to xf86-video-intel-9999 (from the x11-overlay) and libdrm-9999.

I still see flickering, but no crash or total lockdown yet.
This flickering is random for me, but usually follows with a crash.

Do you happen to use fluxbox? (They had a flickering problem which is fixed in the git tree.)

I've used Fluxbox, Gnome (with metacity and with compiz), only XBMC, etc.
The same flicker appears on two chips, one in my Mac Mini (Intel GMA 950 i think) and the one in my htpc (a Intel DG45ID, GMA X4500HD i think).
Comment 13 Rémi Cardona (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-02-02 10:26:47 UTC
I've just added xf86-video-intel 2.6.1 to portage. Please try with this version and a recent kernel (2.6.28 or newer). The flicker should now be gone.

If it's not the case, please reopen this bug with updated information (package versions, new logs, etc).

Thanks
