Following Diego's post http://blog.flameeyes.eu/articles/2008/08/06/flags-and-flags, I found this CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS mixup.

I could not see anything in scipy and numpy distutils is quite involved so I suggest you file a bug upstream (to numpy).

are you able to reproduce with 1.4.1?
