I just noticed that Data-Dumper 2.101 was emerged into my Perl 5.8.0 installation. Data-Dumper is already included with core Perl, and the version on CPAN is no longer maintained. The version included with core Perl is 2.12. Is there some reason for the version from CPAN to be distributed? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge -u world Actual Results: Data-Dumper 2.101 was emerged Expected Results: This package does not belong in portage (outside the Perl core) It is being installed into the wrong directory, anything distributed outside the core should go into "site_perl" daves@rock Data $ pwd /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0/i686-linux/Data daves@rock Data $ ls -la total 34 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 80 Jun 27 18:17 . drwxr-xr-x 21 root root 1368 Mar 28 09:23 .. -r--r--r-- 1 root root 29466 Jun 27 18:17 Dumper.pm
This shouldn't have been in portage, it was part of a test tree locally. The two ebuilds that depended on it have had their dependancies removed.
