Description Nikos Chantziaras 2008-08-27 12:07:35 UTC
This is a blocker for bug 235897. net-print/cups depends on poppler.

Somewhat unrelated: cups 1.3.8 is the only release currently in portage that builds with GCC 4.3.
Comment 1 Timo Gurr (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-08-27 18:47:11 UTC
poppler is a runtime dependency, no need to block the poppler stabilization since a CUPS rebuild won't be necessary. Anyway cups 1.3.8 has been in the tree for little over a month now, I've just revbumped it these days but it's only a minor upstream fix. Arches please stabilize cups-1.3.8-r1.

Oh. I submitted this because of this post on the dev mailing list:

"It won't be long before I ask for poppler-0.8 and -bindings to be
stabilized. This will bump the soname for poppler and force a rebuild
of all packages depending on it."

That's been in the tree for about 5 days, it looks like. Is there a reason to rush it? That said,
net-print/cups-1.3.8-r1 works fine on SPARC.

r1 contains only a minor bugfix, cups 1.3.8-"r0" has been in the tree since 25 Jul 2008. No need to rush it, but imho there's also no need to wait another 30 days because of the revbump.
