Description Thomas K. 2008-08-25 17:18:19 UTC
For some reason net-p2p/rtorrent-0.8.2-r3 fails to build on my system.
I tried to revert to net-p2p/rtorrent-0.7.9, but that does not work either.
Had it working (0.7.9), removed all the not used instances of gcc.

I already considered emerging -uv world, but it might be a larger issue.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerged net-libs/libtorrent-0.12.2-r3, went all good
2.try to emerge net-p2p/rtorrent-0.8.2-r3 (and -r4 after the build failed)

Actual Results:
building does not complete, see build.log...

Expected Results:
working rtorrent-0.8.2-r3

i went through the steps on upgrading gcc, re-emerged libsigc++, updated 'system',
could be i'm just too plain stupid, as i couldn't find anyone else having this trouble ...

here comes the emerge --info

Working fine here

I'm also unable to reproduce this issue. Keeping it open for tracking, but I haven't a clue how to reproduce this issue.
Comment 4 Thomas K. 2008-09-01 15:53:09 UTC
Meanwhile i tried the following measures to solve this:
- emerge -uv --deep world
- emerge the older libtorrent and rtorrent (0.11.9/0.7.9)
- emerge -eav system

and still no go.
my guess is that i am missing some use flag or something, maybe in my gcc.
but everything else is working.
i think i am gonna try and install rtorrent manually via the tarballs on the authors website.
i'll report back at a later time.
Comment 5 Thomas K. 2008-09-01 16:57:32 UTC
ok, compilation of the manually went through. and it works.
might be because of me having rtorrent installed manually before - not really sure if i did.
sorry if i caused any trouble.

Comment 6 Thomas K. 2008-09-02 17:02:48 UTC
I did dig into this issue again, to make it possible to merge successfully.
By removing the libs and binaries that are created under /usr/local/lib and /usr/local/bin it is possible to merge rtorrent and libtorrent flawlessly.

If i am not mistaken the reason why this didn't work is that the rtorrent ebuild accepts a libtorrent installed under /usr/local/lib.

I guess it would be an improvement of some kind if there was some kind of warning that tells the user that a local lib was used, and that this fact could lead to an ebuild not merging correctly.
