About 25% of the connection attempts, the SSL connection to
  https://limedaley.com/webmail/
fails with ssl_error_rx_unexpected_change_cipher

There's actually 2 patches for this issue. The other one is at http://cvs.openssl.org/chngview?cn=17098

Both of these patches are in openssl-0.9.8h. Please confirm that that version works for you.
