Please post your `emerge --info' too. And your /etc/wgetrc.

Did wget suddenly change its parameters? I got a similar error with herdstat. See bug #222887.

Which version of wget are you using? Do you have a /root/.wgetrc file?

Using wget-1.11.1. Don't have a /root/.wgetrc

And I also get the error with update-usbids, so Serkan could be on to something here...

Could you please try to upgrade to wget-1.11.4? Perhaps it's a wget issue.

Hmm, not a big fan of the unstable tree, but ok... 8-)

wget-1.11.4 gives:

WARNING: timestamping does nothing in combination with -O. See the manual
for details.

But otherwise it works fine. So it looks like the problem is somewhere in hddtemp, but wget-1.11.4 is a bit more tolerant.
wget-1.11.4 takes care of the symptoms, but not the cause of the problem...

The cause of the problem is 'timestamping = on' in /etc/wgetrc. As wget's man page explains, this option is incompatible with -O, which is used in hddtemp, update-usbids etc. Perhaps it would be better not to enable timestamping globally and move it to your ~/.wgetrc?

Closing as WONTFIX, since the source of the problem is in a local configuration file.
