Description Ferry 2008-08-18 07:28:01 UTC
Ever since the last couple of versions the i810 driver crashes frequently on me. Sometimes it doesn't happen all day, some times it happens several times a day. Issue is still present in 2.4.0-r1.

Just happily working in X when all of a sudden the screen goes black. X tries to automatically restart like 3 times, after that I get a ncurses? dialog static X can't start and if I want to view error report.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
Can't reproduce at will. Not located source. Doubt it's anything I do that triggers it. I'm not always using the same app, doing the same thing, etc.

Expected Results:
X don't crash.

Could you please enable the "ModeDebug" option of the intel driver in your xorg.conf? (check the man page on how to enable it)

That will make the Intel driver much more verbose.

In the mean time, please do :

1) read this : http://intellinuxgraphics.org/how_to_report_bug.html
2) open a bug over at http://bugs.freedesktop.org
3) add "remi@gentoo.org" as a CC on the new bug

That will get this bug identified and fixed much faster.

Thanks

Reassigning back to x11 as I am now on that alias.

Sorry about not responding this long. Some how ever since I enabled the ModeDebug (and this is all I changed to X) it doesn't crash anymore (well not yet anyways). Kind of strange, it never ran this long without crashing w/o the debug mode.

Do have 2 other problems, don't know if they are related. They seem opposites of each other too.

If in X i switch to console with Ctrl+Alt+F1 and then switch back, I usually don't get any screen anymore (it remains black). Can switch back to console that's fine.

If the laptop suspends to memory and comes out of it, X will show just gray with pale colored lines. I have to switch to terminal, the terminal will stay black, and switch back to X. X is usually fine then, but the consoles don't show anymore.

Ferry, please open a bug in FreeDesktop's Bugzilla like I suggested in comment #4. It's about the only way to get this fixed as I'm just a maintainer, I don't know the code.

Thanks

My bad, this was supposed to be posted there. It is opened, you're on the CC.
