Description Daniel Pielmeier gentoo-dev 2008-08-10 20:40:20 UTC
When trying to start hp-toolbox I get this message:

warning: GUI mode disabled in build.
error: hp-toolbox requires GUI support. Exiting.

I also got this message with version 2.7.10. I tried with use-flags qt3 and qt4 only but this did not change anything.

Could you please attach the result of hp-check and the output of the configure phase while emerging (i.e. from the beginning of the emerge to when it starts compiling) ?

Denis.

Hmm, the hplip-2.8.6b-configure.log tells gui-build is enabled, but hp-check.log says gui-build is disabled!

This is also strange, why is cups-ddk missing when i have the use-flag set?

hp-check[13763]: info: :Checking for dependency: cups-ddk - CUPS driver development kit...
warning: NOT FOUND! This is an OPTIONAL/RUNTIME ONLY dependency. Some HPLIP functionality may not function properly.

I'm thinking it could be an issue with an etc-update or dispatch-conf at some point. It happened to me before while up- and down-grading repeatedly while working on the ebuilds. Could you please 'emerge -C hplip', 'rm /etc/hp/hplip.conf' and then 'emerge hplip'? If that's fixes it we'll have to find out why it went wrong.

This is OK. The hp-check script is probably not looking in the right place. Something I have seen before but have been too lazy to fix. It's the same here and the dynamic drivers work properly (i.e. those that use cupsddk).

That fixed the problem. gui-build=yes is now set in hplip.conf.

Unmerging and reemerging hplip is not even needed. Just enabling or disabling this in hplp.conf makes the hp-toolbox working or not.

I also wanted to make sure the install process wrote the conf file correctly.

Do you usually use etc-update or dispatch-conf ? I'm trying to find out where the issue is exactly. Could you try and reproduce the issue (i.e. the conf file no being updated properly by either etc-update or dispatch-conf) ?

I use dispatch-conf exclusively! I reemerged without qt3 and qt4 and then again with these flags. Both times the configuration file was properly updated by dispatch-conf.

So do I. And I had the same issue as you not so long ago.

And yet it got it wrong at some point. I'll ask the portage team what they think about this. Thanks for your help debugging this.

Denis.

It seems that 237221, 240660 are both duplicates of this bug (at least of each other).
Comment 12 Dror Levin (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-03-31 23:22:13 UTC
This seems to be fixed in version 3.9.2 which was added to the tree several days ago.
Comment 13 Marco Paolone 2009-04-19 12:24:37 UTC
Same error about hp-toolbox gui here.. while trying to emerge again the package, portage didn't notify the missing PyQt dep, erroneously removed.
Comment 14 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2009-07-17 17:20:29 UTC
What about 3.9.4b-r1 ? Pyqt* deps were reworked
Comment 15 Daniel Pielmeier gentoo-dev 2009-10-15 09:01:13 UTC
Please check if there are still issues with the newest version. The dependencies should be correct. hplip.conf is updated properly at least for me.
Comment 16 Daniel Pielmeier gentoo-dev 2009-11-04 18:41:21 UTC
This bug should be fixed in newest versions. If there are still issues please reopen.
