Description Banerjee 2008-08-10 19:19:17 UTC
I have mldonkey running at the system startup. After 5 minutes the system hangs up and i must reboot. I try with KDe, gnome or entering in safe mode, but the system hangs always.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start the system
2. Start mldonkey.
3. Wait for mldonkey hashing
4. Reboot!

I'm using gentoo 2008 for x86 and i have an Athlon 64 x2 4000. When i'm in command line mode, the system tells me Kernel Panic and some kind of problem with the CPU writing.
Sorry for my english and my low level in Linux :S

Could you try to copy ALL kernel panic text from console into this bug?
Comment 4 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-08-15 11:31:39 UTC
Looks like maybe the system is simply overheating (whether that's CPU or memory or the chipset I don't know). I do not yet see how this is a software problem.
Comment 5 Robin Johnson archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2008-08-17 00:10:23 UTC
I suspect hardware fault. Run some stress tests on your system and see if you can cause failures there.
Comment 6 Banerjee 2008-08-20 13:33:38 UTC
Ok, i tryied to underclock the CPU but i have the same problem. i can't understand why mldonkey hangs my machine in gentoo only, because i tryied the same version of mldonkey in fedora, mandriva, opensuse and ubuntu with the CPU overclocked and never hanged up.
maybe its my gentoo config...
What can i do?

Compare the kernel .config of your various Linux installs.
MLDonkey can be used as a good burn-in tool;)

Ok, thanks to everyone. Finally it was some corrupted temp files on my fat32 drive (i know, fat32 isn't cool).
I deleted these files and now everything works OK.
Thank you
