Matroska is a new video container format designed as a replacement for AVI. It supports arbitrary numbers of audio, video, and subtitle streams, of quite a large variety of codecs (most notable are the MPEG-4 variants, Vorbis, MP3, AC3). It also allows linking two or more Matroska files. Additional information about the tracks can be stored, most notably language. In the future, DVD-style chapter menus will also be implemented, as well as a variety of other features. This library is required to mux/demux Matroska files, and is a dependency of mkvtoolnix . The only Linux player that supports Matroska files currently is mplayer CVS. I suggest media-libs/libmatroska

My apologies, I didn't see the 0.4.2 matroska ebuilds until after commit. This new version is required for mkvtoolnix 0.5.0, which I attached to the existing mkvtoolnix ebuild post.
Not sounds related. Sorry, buglist to long right now.
libmatroska-0.4.4 has been added to portage. please test. :)
