unpatched swfdec-gnome is incompatible with swfdec-0.7*:

checking for THUMBNAILER... configure: error: Package requirements (swfdec-0.6 >= 0.6.0) were not met:

No package 'swfdec-0.6' found

The dependency needs to be changed to =media-libs/swfdec-0.6*

Is there a point to slotting?  It's not trivial (docs), and it's still a 0.x release.  Will anything care about 0.6 swfdec after 0.8 comes out?

on second thought, this is like gucharmap and other things that break API from time to time and need to be in sync with each other, slotting all these deps would be just crazy in amount of work. Closing wontfix ?

NAK, slotting is not worth it unless upstream does it properly to begin with.
