Description Markus Goppelt 2008-08-04 20:36:50 UTC
Hi,

I cannot get Opera to run Java. I have 4 different Javas on my machine:
$ locate libjava.so
/usr/lib64/icedtea6-9999/jre/lib/amd64/libjava.so
/opt/blackdown-jre-1.4.2.03/lib/amd64/libjava.so
/opt/emul-linux-x86-java-1.6.0.07/lib/i386/libjava.so
/opt/sun-jdk-1.6.0.07/jre/lib/amd64/libjava.so

I tried every one of them:
$ cat > .opera/javapath.txt
/usr/lib64/icedtea6-9999/jre/lib/amd64
$ opera --debugjava
opera: [java] failed to load libawt.so: libjvm.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
opera: [java] failed to load libjawt.so: libmawt.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
opera: [java] failed to load a suitable awt library. Java will not work.

$ cat > .opera/javapath.txt
/opt/blackdown-jre-1.4.2.03/lib/amd64
$ opera --debugjava
opera: [java] failed to load libawt.so: libjvm.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
opera: [java] failed to load libjawt.so: libjvm.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
opera: [java] failed to load a suitable awt library. Java will not work.

$ cat > .opera/javapath.txt
/opt/sun-jdk-1.6.0.07/jre/lib/amd64
$ opera --debugjava
opera: [java] failed to load libawt.so: libjvm.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
opera: [java] failed to load libjawt.so: libmawt.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
opera: [java] failed to load a suitable awt library. Java will not work.

$ cat > .opera/javapath.txt
/opt/emul-linux-x86-java-1.6.0.07/lib/i386
$ opera --debugjava
ERROR: ld.so: object 'libjvm.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.

I guess opera-9.51 is 64 bit, so i can't use 32 bit libraries.

Here's my emerge --info:

Here are my installed Javas:
$ java-config -L
The following VMs are available for generation-2:
1)      Blackdown JRE 1.4.2.03 [blackdown-jre-1.4.2]
2)      Sun 32bit JRE 1.6.0.07 [emul-linux-x86-java-1.6]
3)      GCJ 4.3.1 [gcj-jdk]
*)      OpenJDK6/IcedTea6 9999 [icedtea6]
5)      Sun JDK 1.6.0.07 [sun-jdk-1.6]

The Java environment variables:
$ env | grep -i java
MANPATH=/etc/java-config-2/current-system-vm/man:/usr/local/share/man:/usr/share/man:/usr/share/binutils-data/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/2.18/man:/usr/share/gcc-data/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.1/man:/etc/java-config/system-vm/man/:/usr/kde/3.5/share/man:/usr/qt/3/doc/man:/opt/opera/share/man
CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK=/etc/env.d/java/ /etc/udev/rules.d /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/terminfo /etc/texmf/web2c /etc/revdep-rebuild
JAVA_HOME=/etc/java-config-2/current-system-vm
JAVAC=/etc/java-config-2/current-system-vm/bin/javac
JDK_HOME=/etc/java-config-2/current-system-vm

Java works with Firefox (icedtea6 plugin):
$ ls /usr/lib64/nsbrowser/plugins/ -l
total 240
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root    57 2008-08-03 21:13 javaplugin.so -> //usr/share/java-config-2/nsplugin/icedtea6-javaplugin.so*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 76424 2008-08-02 09:08 npwrapper.libflashplayer.so*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 76424 2008-08-02 09:08 npwrapper.nphelix.so*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 76424 2008-08-02 09:08 npwrapper.nppdf.so*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root    52 2008-08-02 09:08 npwrapper.so -> /usr/lib64/nspluginwrapper/x86_64/linux/npwrapper.so*

There are a few people in the forums having the same problem, but nobody has the answer.

Greetings,

Markus

See bug #227339 comment #20 - with USE=ia32 you can do that. I don't think any 64-bit web browser works with any Java plugin right now.

It works! Thank you Jeroen!
