I have tried plugging in USB sticks, cellphones and modems. There is apparently no USB support (no new device shown by VMWare Player). Linux perfectly sees the devices.
Daniele, that's about the least possible information you could provide. As requested on the bug-filling-in form please provide *at least* the output from emerge --info. Also please state the version of the vmware-modules package you were using, the kernel version you were using, any error messages you encountered and any other information that you think might help.
Sorry Mike, I will post it here. I am also available for specific tests. Thanks, Can you please check the version of your vmware virtual machine's hardware (or attach the .vmx file). It should be listed in the .vmx file as virtualHW.version. Also, please can you attach the output vmware logs after booting the machine and plugging in a USB stick. These can be found in the same directory as the virtual machine...
Created attachment 162097 [details] .vmx for my virtual machine
Absolutely nothing is generated when plugging in the USB stick. only some MKS lost grab (due to the mouse hovering): Aug 03 16:08:37.654: mks| MKS lost grab Aug 03 16:08:38.707: mks| MKS lost grab Aug 03 16:09:17.359: mks| MKS lost grab
Daniele, My guess is that your virtual machine doesn't have USB support. That is, the host can supply USB, but the virtual machine doesn't believe it has any USB ports. USB is just like the sound driver, or a network adaptor, and must be added to the virtual machine before it can be used. To add it, add the following line to your .vmx file: usb.present="TRUE" Please report back here as to whether that fixed your problem or not...
My bad...did not know about that. USB perfectly working now. Thank you!
