Description Simon Zilliken 2008-08-02 11:16:02 UTC
emerge blas-atlas fails with the following error:

/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.2.4/../../../../x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: .libs/caxpy.o: relocation R_X86_64_32 against `a local symbol' can not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC

libtool: install: `libblas.la' is not a valid libtool archive
libtool: install: Try `libtool --help --mode=install' for more information.

make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/sci-libs/blas-atlas-3.9.1/work/ATLAS/gentoo-build'
make: *** [shared] Fehler 2

The failing command is apparently

libtool --mode=install cp libblas.la /var/tmp/portage/sci-libs/blas-atlas-3.9.1/work/ATLAS/gentoo-build/gentoo/libs

find /var/tmp/portage/sci-libs/blas-atlas-3.9.1/work/ -iname libblas*
returns nothing.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge blas-atlas

emerge --info:

Complete build log

build.log, partly German. If needed, I'll rebuild gcc, make,.. without native language support.
Comment 2 Simon Zilliken 2008-08-02 11:58:33 UTC
Seems like this is a libtool problem. After downgrading to libtool-1.5.26 linking succeeds.
Comment 3 Markus Dittrich (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-08-20 13:14:53 UTC
Does this still happen with blas-atlas-3.9.3?

Thanks,
Markus
Comment 4 Simon Zilliken 2008-08-20 15:03:04 UTC
blas-atlas-3.9.3 works with libtool-2.2.4

Thanks,
Simon

Great, and thank you very much for checking.

Best,
Markus
