Description Peter Johanson (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-06-23 21:25:06 UTC
I"ve been working away on a new IPv6 howto guide for us gentooers. A few minor
items need further clarification, or confirmation of config files, etc. I'm
submitting the current version to hopefully begin getting comments for
fixes/additions. Hopefully we can get this spankin' clean and get it added. Will
attach ipv6.xml

ipv6.xml documentation file

ipv6.xml!

Nice document!

The only thing I miss is a section with a sample configuration file, so that you don't have to type in all the ip stuff after a reboot.

E.g. I was looking for a configuration-option in /etc/conf.d/net.eth0 to set there my IPv6 address (I use it only in-house to my other system). Maybe I'm blind or there is no option? And maybe there are more users who ask themselves this question.

Edited version of the original document

Original document edited (spelling, sentence structure mostly).

In the following excerpt, I wasn't sure what the sentence between the listings
was referring to. This probably needs to be revised.
---
Code listing 4.4
# USE="ipv6" emerge djbdns

The initial installation can be handled by doing and then following the
instructions.

Code listing 4.5
# tinydns-setup
---

revised and supplemented

Here's a revised version that incorporates the spelling/grammar changes (thanks
for the help, i hate that stuff) and adds a section for setting up 6to4
conversion.

i've moved the note about work on init scripts to be placed at the end of the
tunnel setup chapter, hopefully that's a better spot for it.

Any opinions on adding a small preface that indicates the guide assumes basic
knowledge of networking/DNS and IPv6, and has a few links with simple
introductions to those issues?
Comment 5 Sven Vermeulen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-07-08 07:22:30 UTC
I'll review the doc. You don't have to add any information about prerequisite knowledge... the user will find out soon enough :)

Reviewed document

Reviewed document. Will also be posted to the Gentoo Documentation Team for
final review. Normally, unless there are showstoppers, this phase should end
tomorrow resulting in a commit to the CVS and link from the main documentation
website.
