With the new developer profile it seems there are a number of users incorrectly thinking it is a profile aimed at developers in general rather than gentoo devs. This is causing some problems when they hit QA errors and other bugs that the profile exposes in ebuilds. Is it possible to make it harder for users to select (require something in make.conf ala experimental gcc versions maybe?) or at the very least add a big warning to it whenever portage is used explaining that the profile is aimed at gentoo devs and may cause problems that users probably dont want to deal with. Reproducible: Always
base-system has nothing to do with profiles.
I'd like to perform some necromancy on this request for the 10.0 profiles. The developer profiles should be hidden or display obvious warnings about their usage. I don't know whether it's people upgrading to the 10.0 profiles or what but I've seen ~10 cases of people using the developer profile and then encountering issues they don't understand because of it in the past few weeks.
