Description Florian Streibelt 2008-07-30 10:17:37 UTC
I had a 'hard lock' of gnome due to a gui race-condition.
While Network-Manager tried to astablish a connection to my encrypted WLAN I clicked on it to see the list of available nets again. So NM popped up a dropdown menu.

At the same time NM asked the gnome-keyring for my WLAN-Password, and the gnome-keyring-ask binary popped up its password-dialog for the keyring password.

Then the input focus of mouse and keyboard was completely lost.

I was not able to enter a password or click on any buttons of the password-dialog.
I changed to a text-console and had to killall gnome-keyring-ask.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Yummy, grabs...

This is a textbook example of why X grabs are a Bad Idea (tm) in their current form. I guess we'd need to figure out what gnome-keyring-ask really does.

As far as I'm concerned, I would say this is an upstream Gnome bug. But an interesting one though :)

I'll try to take a look, but please do file a bug in Gnome's bugzilla.

Thanks

There might be similar bug already known upstream - sorry.

like gnome-bug: 467216
and Bug 507392 – Seahorse blocks on entering key password
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=507392

Hmm. Maybe NegtworkManager needs some tweaking?

Filed an upstream bug report

I've added gnome@gentoo.org as a CC on the upstream bug, let's track it there.

Thanks

upstream bug is needinfo, please provide them with any necessary input and reopen when done.
Comment 8 Florian Streibelt 2009-04-22 23:05:57 UTC
can not reproduce the bug any more - works for me, there are in fact some duplicates of the upstream bug but in addition I found out there seems to exist a Interrupt-handling problem on my specifiv hardware.

When enabling/disabling my WIFI the keyboard locks for some seconds.

ok, thanks for the info
Comment 10 Gilles Dartiguelongue (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-04-22 23:09:10 UTC
and closing fixed then. Don't hesitate to reopen it is was after all not only hardware related.
