Description Johannes Bauer 2008-07-28 14:15:58 UTC
I need the latest cross-avr/binutils (cross-avr/binutils-2.18.50.0.7) for avr-gcc to compile (found that out by a previosly filed bug, compilation otherwise aborts with a unknown opcode "movw" for avr3). When I try to emerge the desired version, I get:

[...]
- cross-avr/binutils-2.18.50.0.7 (masked by: missing keyword)

I tried adding to /etc/portage/package.keywords each of the following lines:

=cross-avr/binutils-2.18.50.0.7 x86 ~x86
=cross-avr/binutils-2.18.50.0.7 x86
=cross-avr/binutils-2.18.50.0.7 ~x86
=cross-avr/binutils-2.18.50.0.7 * ~*
=cross-avr/binutils-2.18.50.0.7 -x86 -~x86
=cross-avr/binutils-2.18.50.0.7 * ~* -x86 -~x86

and all of the above also with just "cross-avr/binutils". No effect, the package has still a "missing keyword" error. When testing all the above combinations I commented out the one which was created by crossdev, of course (this is the last example in the list)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try some keyword to /etc/portage/package.keywords
2. emerge =cross-avr/binutils-2.18.50.0.7

Actual Results:
(masked by: missing keyword)

Expected Results:
Compile.

'man portage' shows to use "**" if KEYWORDS is left blank. Please read that for more info. Also, the man page doesn't suggest to use explicit versions like you have tried. I would expect "cross-avr/binutils **" to definitely work for you.

I don't know where you are getting this ebuild from (it doesn't appear to be in the tree) so I cannot check and verify what the ebuild has for keywords already.

Jeremy,

thank you for your comment - it most definitely was the solution I was looking for. I have to apologize - people who cannot RTFM annoy me, too. Now I'm one of them :-( Your solution worked flawlessly.

As for the package, yes, it appears to be in the tree (I just checked the snapshot of portage-20080720.tar.bz2, where portage/sys-devel/binutils/binutils-2.18.50.0.7.ebuild is included).

Thanks again,
Johannes
