Description Łukasz Damentko (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-07-28 11:30:42 UTC
There is a number of people lurking on the retirement@gentoo.org alias who aren't directly involved in the whole retirement procedure. We often discuss private stuff on this alias and it happens time to time that there's quite sensitive information shared there.

That's why I think it would be quite reasonable to make this alias private and accessible only to people who are directly involved in the whole procedure. Others can still follow us on bugzilla (by watching retirement@gentoo.org bugs on bugzilla) if they are interested in who's leaving and so on.

My proposal is to reduce who's on the retirement@gentoo.org mail alias to:

- retirement subproject members (me and musikc),
- infra people doing retirement work (robbat2 (and other people if any?)),
- recruiters (Calchan, Betelgeuse, any new recruiters out there) if they are interested why their former recruits are leaving

We could add whole devrel and infra but I doubt people in those projects are interested in this stuff. If you are, please comment on the bug.

People subscribed to the alias currently are: kingtaco, robin, ramereth, tove, zlin + three undertakers (me, musikc and still not retired phreak).

So, what do you guys think?

Recruiters don't really have a direct interest in the alias but doesn't hurt for having our alias in the list. We can work solely based on the bugzilla info too.

I'd add all of devrel, I think.

fmmcor: why does devrel want all the bugspam from the processing? If there are contentious retirements, you should probably be on the CC list (in the bug or mail) directly.

betelguese: was that a yay or nay for having recruiters on there? again, mostly bugspam.
Comment 4 Denis Dupeyron (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-08-12 19:47:32 UTC
This half of the recruiting team thinks he doesn't really need more bugspam.

Denis.

Fair question, and I don't know that all devrel does. I was really speaking only for myself, I guess, because I like to see them. Sometimes (seldom but not never) I have information which is not public but which is relevant.

Ok. Let's not add our alias then.

It's fine with me to include infra, devrel and recruiters in the alias should those people choose to join it. If they do not choose to do so, we could allow specific members of those projects to join the alias if they want to.

So, let's do it this way:

- We leave undertakers (me and musikc) on the alias for obvious reasons
- We leave Robin there and anybody else in infra who's processing retirements (Ramereth, fox2mike?) - also for obvious reasons
- We add any member of infra, devrel, userrel, council and trustees who wants to be added there since those projects deal with enough personal and sensitive data anyway and can be trusted with some more
- We deny such requests from other guys due to privacy reasons and remove anyone who's currently subscribed there but ineligible.

This is how I see the future of this alias. The only people who will be forced to be on it, will be those who do the actual work, but members of our "HR" projects who want to watch the process are allowed to do so (if they want to).

Works for me. And add me, please, to the alias.

Don't see a reason for userrel, nor trustee's to be part of the info chain for undertaking/devs retiring. Council was involved with any of the disputes about retiring so its still not trustee's there.

As such I would say that no one from userrel should be on the alias. Trustee's well its my belief that we have no reason to be on it at all either but that's just my opinion.

Done.

New list:
# undertakers
musikc, rane
# infra
robbat2,kingtaco,ramereth
# devrel
fmccor

I removed tove since he hasn't comment here despite getting mail per being on the old retirement alias. I removed zlin the other day when he retired as well.
