During startup or when e.g. starting apache manually via "/etc/init.d/apache start" I receive the following error: /sbin/runscript.sh: line 21: selection: command not found This error message turns up for every daemon that is defined. I tried to check the runscript.sh file but found nothing on line 21. The funny thing is that when I removed some empty lines in the area from line 1 to 50 the error message stayed the same ! (although I would have expected that line 21 would become line 17 or something like that). This seems to be an error I can't track down. Anybody knows how to fix this ? I searched google and the forum but didn't find anything that matches this error. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
What version of baselayout ?
I used 1.8.6.7, downgrading to 1.8.5.9 helped (your question helped me to understand gentoo better, now I know to some extend the meaning of "baselayout" ;-))
Could you update again, and if still the issue, please attach you /etc/rc.conf. Sorry for the long delay - was MIA.

I am having a similar problem. Every time I start / stop / restart a daemon using the /etc/init.d/service start|stop|restart method I get the following error: /sbin/runscript.sh: line 52: 5:: command not found Line 52 is fine, there is no syntax error. I am using baselayout-1.8.6.8-r1 (P.S. -- I attached my rc.conf file. I was getting an error when I submitted it so I accidentally submitted it twice. My appologies!)
Ah! I'm really sorry I just looked at my rc.conf file and found the problem, though I don't know how this happened. There is a line that was uncommented that shouldn't have been. I have fixed it. Sorry for clogging this thread!

Yep, I changed the comments a bit in .10 to help that issue. Closing.
