Description Bob Raitz 2008-07-25 21:21:45 UTC
Using the 2.6.26-gentoo kernel, ndiswrapper appears to connect, wpa_cli appears to work, but no routing table, no IP, no network; local or internet. The .config used to make said kernel was taken from 2.6.26 vanilla-sources, and make oldconfig was ran. 2.6.26 vanilla-sources connects just fine.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot with 2.6.26-gentoo kernel
2. load ndiswrapper
3. Card appears to connect, and is able to scan
4. single line appears after calling route
5. no IP address is given.

Actual Results:
The wireless networking would not come up beyond being able to scan for AP's

Expected Results:
Complete connection including proper routing table and IP address.

EMERGE --INFO FOR AFFECTED SYSTEM.

Can you also attach dmesg output after attempting to connect with each of these kernels?

Try a ndiswrapper -l. If you see ssb as an alternative driver disable it in the kernel then recompile.

http://cateee.net/lkddb/web-lkddb/USB_OHCI_HCD_SSB.html

This cleared up this problem for me.

There is nothing wrong with ndiswrapper. It works with the .22 and .25 and even the straight 2.6.26, but not with the gentoo-sources. I'm thinking it connects eventually, but after ten minutes, it still seems not to want to connect.
Comment 10 Bob Raitz 2009-07-23 07:53:34 UTC
I think perhaps this bug should die due to attrition. The kernel version is so old, as well as the ndisdwrapper verion, perhaps it's time to close this.

If someone wants to keep it open, they will have to champion it. I have long since switched to b43.

Comment 11 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-09-27 14:34:00 UTC
If this is still supposed to be a problem with 2.6.30 (current stable gentoo-sources) and ndiswrapper-1.55-r1, please reopen.
