The documentation referencing how to unmask a package with a missing keyword is incorrect. I attempted to unmask openrc-9999 with: sys-apps/openrc ~* * I can confirm that this does not work. When attempting to unmask with: sys-apps/openrc ** It allows me to emerge openrc-9999. However, that syntax is still valid under most circumstances. "You can unmask it by accepting another architecture for the package." My vote is to leave it as is. I do not think it is the wishes of the AMD64 team to support packages that are untested on all archs (eg. openrc-9999)
Well, having an empty KEYWORDS variable entirely is a stupid, stupid thing to do. It really should be in the tree with some ~arch masking, even if accompanied by -* for all other arches. But, even though I only found about three packages with empty KEYWORDS, I'll go ahead and update the guide to reflect **. The Portage manpage concurs with using this in p.keywords to unmask packages with empty KEYWORDS.
