Gentoo GCC Upgrade Guide's abstract says: "This document will guide the user through the process of upgrading GCC on their Gentoo machines."

"the user" is singular, thus it should say "upgrading GCC on his Gentoo machine[s]."

IMO, avoid gender by saying "upgrading GCC on a Gentoo host." or similar. ;)
